Eating well combined with exercise is the right lifestyle for you!

In order to change the way we eat and live our life, it takes a long process to reach a point that we can make fundamental changes in lifestyle. We have to reach a point that we truly understand that eating well is a lifestyle and not a part time hobby.

Eating for many of us is a battle. We love to eat, but we hate what is does to our bodies and health. Most are losing the battle because they don't realize until a major health challenge enters their life, that remaining overweight or worse yet, obese, has long term and possibly irreversible consequences.

Let's start focusing on things we can do to change the way we eat and exercise to make the most of busy lives. There are so many great foods that are healthy and delicious.

Drink natural juice... meaning make your own with fruit and frozen fruit. Some juices add sugar!!!

water is great!! I love unsweetened ice tea.. A lot of people drink sweet tea with sugar and don't realize how bad the sugar is:)

I don't drink soda, but even juices have lots of sugar. Chocolate is my weakness, but I'm going to have to make some changes. I'll try it tomorrow.

Cut out refined sugar.. like sodas, candies etc. That is the big one! Also, eat half portions. I eat small meals but more often. If you cut portions and all refined sugar you should lose the pounds... along with exercise:)

I ordered a Reuben sandwich with the dressing on the side. Didn't use
that much of it. I really need to lose 15 lbs. Right now I'd settle for 5 lbs.

I am sitting at Paneras right now.. but eating a roast beef sandwich with mustard only.. no mayo and an apple! I wanted the chips lol but thought the apple was healthier. The more fruit I eat, the more I crave it:)

grilled shrimp skewers

Grilled Shrimp Skewers Mediterranean Style

1/2 cup chopped ripe plum (about 1)
1/2 cup diced apricots (about 2)
1/2 cup diced nectarine (about 1)
2 tablespoons thinly sliced fresh mint
2 tablespoons diced red onion
1 tablespoon minced seeded serrano chile
1 teaspoon grated lime rind
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon honey
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
12 sweet cherries, pitted and halved
1 green onion, finely chopped

2 tablespoons butter, melted
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 garlic clove, minced
24 jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined (about 2 pounds)
Cooking spray
6 lime wedges
Mint sprigs (optional)
To prepare salsa, combine the first 13 ingredients in a medium bowl; stir well. Cover and chill 1 hour.

Prepare grill.

To prepare shrimp, place butter, 2 teaspoons juice, 1/4 teaspoon salt, garlic, and shrimp in a large bowl; toss to coat. Thread 4 shrimp onto each of 6 (12-inch) skewers. Place kebabs on a grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill for 3 minutes on each side or until shrimp are done. Serve with salsa and lime wedges. Garnish with mint sprigs, if desired.

Serve with Basmati Rice or a bed of fresh greens.

Cob Salad

According to legend, this recipe was created by Bob Cobb, the owner of the Brown Derby Restaurant in Los Angeles, to use up some leftovers that had gathered in the refrigerator.

Serves 4 to 6

Cobb SaladDressing:
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon finely minced garlic
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/8 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup olive oil

6 cups torn lettuce (preferably Bibb, romaine, iceberg, or a combination)
1 bunch watercress, trimmed
2 cups torn curly endive or frisée
2 medium tomatoes, chopped
6 slices turkey bacon(substituted for real bacon), cooked crisp and crumbled
3 cups diced cooked chicken
3 large eggs, hard-boiled, peeled, and diced
1 large avocado, peeled, pitted, and diced
1/2 cup crumbled Roquefort cheese
2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives


1- To make the dressing, combine the vinegar, garlic, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and sugar in a small bowl. Whisk in the oil in a slow, steady stream until the dressing is smooth. Set aside.

2- To make the salad, line a large platter with the lettuce. On top of the lettuce, arrange the watercress and curly endive. Arrange the tomatoes, bacon, chicken, eggs, and avocado in a decorative manner on top. Sprinkle with the Roquefort cheese and chives.

3- Drizzle half the dressing over the salad. Serve at once, passing the remaining dressing at the table.
